Day off... yeah right

July 5, 2007 Day Off in Colorado Springs, CO

We woke up at 7:30am which is still an extra two hours of sleep but in no way did we want to get up that early. It was worth it though when we got to breakfast. We went to the house of the parents of someone who works for Push America. For lunch we went back to the Olympic Training Center but didn't eat in the cafeteria. Instead, we had a conference room rented out and the Easter Seals of Southern Colorado provided us lunch. They told us all about the programs that they are involved in and some that they are starting up. We gave them a grant as well.

The lunch was also a small Friendship Visit because I was able to spend time with Amy and her three year old son Mason. Mason has autism and I had a great time talking to Amy about what it's like to have Mason and what kind of therapies they do to try to intervene and shape his behaviors. It was fascinating learning from her and hearing her stories and the way she talked about him and interacted with him. He was a cute kid and fun to play with.

We ate dinner at John Pierce's house. John Pierce was a member of the first Journey of Hope team in 1988 and had a huge role in setting up the destinations and route of what is now the North route. He now works for the Olympic Games and was vital in setting up meals and programming while we were in Colorado Springs. Our meal at his house was set up to be more like a hangout and time to relax. We played pool and watched TV while a lot of guys played air hockey and bache ball with John's son.
